The experience gained during development of and training at Cosmonaut Training Center and in 1960 revealed that the personnel should be highly-qualified in order to perform successful selection and training activity within the Vostok and Voskhod programs. Therefore from 1961 through 1969 the following specialists were employed at the Center: one Doctor of Medicine, 7 PhDs in Technical Sciences, 5 PhDs in Medicine, one PhDs in Military Sciences, and one PhD in Education. At the same period one Doctor of Technical Sciences, seven PhDs in Technical Sciences, and three PhD in Medicine defended their dissertations on a competitive basis at different cooperating organizations.
At present 62 PhDs and 8 Doctors of Science work at the Center. The high qualification of the Center’s specialists and recognition of their scientific and technological contribution in space exploration are confirmed by the fact that many of them have been awarded academic titles such as professors, assistant professors, senior researchers, some of them were rewarded with the governmental rewards, some were elected as academicians and corresponding members of K.E. Tsiolkovsky Russian Academy of Cosmonautics, Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, IAA, and others.
